WordPress development in Nairobi, done properly
Our WordPress development service in Nairobi is for organizations that want the flexibility of the world's most widely used CMS without the mess that often comes with it. We design and build custom WordPress websites for Kenyan businesses, NGOs, schools and startups that need a site their own team can update, that loads quickly on mobile networks, and that won't fall apart the next time a plugin updates.
WordPress is a good fit when you publish regularly (news, blogs, programs, job listings, events), when several people need to edit the site with different permissions, or when you want to own your site and host it wherever you choose. It is also a sensible base if you may add a shop later, since WooCommerce runs on the same platform.
Who this is for
Our clients range from small professional firms to large institutions, but they tend to share one of these situations:
- Companies replacing an old, slow or hacked WordPress site
- Organizations moving from a site builder they have outgrown
- Marketing teams that need landing pages and blog posts without developer tickets
- NGOs and institutions with lots of content, reports and downloads to organize
How we build WordPress websites
Every project starts with structure, not a template. We look at the content you have and the content you will publish over the next year, then model it properly. A program, a team member or a case study becomes its own content type with defined fields, so editors fill in a form instead of fighting a layout.
From there, our process looks like this:
- Discovery and planning. Goals, audiences, sitemap, integrations (CRM, email, forms, payments) and who will manage the site.
- Design. Page designs for mobile and desktop, reviewed with you before build. If you already have designs, we build from them.
- Development. A custom theme using the block editor, with reusable sections your team can mix and match. We add plugins only when they earn their place.
- Content and migration. We move existing pages and posts, set up redirects from old URLs and check that nothing important gets lost.
- Testing and launch. Real-device testing on the phones and browsers your audience uses, speed checks, form tests, then a planned launch.
You can read more about how we run projects on our process page.
What you get, and how we judge success
At handover you receive admin access, a short written guide for editors, a recorded training session and a list of every plugin installed with the reason it is there. The site is yours: you can host it with us or anywhere else. Good WordPress development should leave you less dependent on your developer, not more, so we avoid proprietary lock-in such as custom builders only we understand.
We judge a WordPress build on practical outcomes rather than launch-day screenshots:
- Can a non-technical editor publish a page or post confidently in minutes?
- Does the site pass Core Web Vitals on mobile for key templates?
- Are search basics in place: clean URLs, titles, meta descriptions, XML sitemaps and structured data where it helps?
- Is there a tested backup and an update routine someone owns?
Common WordPress mistakes we fix
Much of our WordPress work is rescuing sites that started on the wrong foot. The patterns repeat:
- Multipurpose themes. Themes that try to do everything ship huge amounts of code you never use. That weight shows up as slow pages on mobile data.
- Plugin sprawl. Each plugin is another thing to update and another potential security hole. We consolidate and remove what isn't needed.
- Nulled or pirated plugins. Free copies of premium plugins are a common source of malware. We only use licensed or reputable free plugins.
- No staging environment. Testing updates on the live site is how outages happen. Every site we build has a staging copy.
- Nobody owns maintenance. WordPress needs regular core, theme and plugin updates. Our website maintenance guide explains what that involves.
Choosing WordPress developers in Kenya
When comparing WordPress developers in Kenya, ask to see the admin side of sites they have built, not just the front end. Ask who owns the hosting, domain and licences after launch, how updates are handled, and whether they write custom code or only assemble themes. A good developer will be comfortable answering all of it in writing. Finally, check how they approach speed and security, because those are the two areas where cheap WordPress development usually cuts corners, and they are expensive to fix later.
If you are still deciding between WordPress, Webflow or a custom system, our CMS development services page compares the options, and we are happy to give an honest recommendation even when WordPress isn't the answer.
